Data and related resources must be described using the SPASE data model before they can be registered with the VMO. These descriptions (metadata) are generally kept in the XML format and therefore just about any text editor can be used to produce and modify the descriptions. However, this article recommends several metadata editors that make the editing more convenient.

SPASE XML Web Editor

The VMO group at UCLA developed a SPASE XML Editor with a web interface for generating SPASE descriptions. Existing descriptions can be loaded from either a URL or selected form a local file system and uploaded into the editor. Features include viewing and saving of the XML respresentation of the description.

The SPASE XML Editor requires little knowledge of the SPASE data model because it clearly marks required elements and provides quick links that explain meaning of the elements.

Click here to access the SPASE XML web interface with a loaded SPASE description of the WIND MFI v4 data product.

Download the java source, stylesheets, documentation and compiled classes that implement the SPASE web editor. Or get the SPASE description of the WIND MFI v4 data product.
